Meet Carolyn Polakowski
Carolyn Polakowski is a nonprofit consultant with nearly 40 years’ experience in leading and guiding charitable organizations. She has worked with dozens of charities focused on supporting those with special needs and Camp Big Heart is her absolute favorite. “Camp Big Heart fills a gap in summer programming for those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities—particularly the adults. For many, it is the only camp that warmly welcomes special needs individuals for fun, friendship and wonderful experiences. I love that Camp Big Heart also is providing caregivers desperately needed respite time to recharge their batteries after a year of 24/7 care of their loved one.” Carolyn joined the board in 2019 and served as president 2022-2024. She focuses her efforts in fundraising for camp to assure that no camper is turned away because of financial need.
Camp Big Heart means inclusion. At CBH we create a space where individuals with disabilities are seen, valued, and given the freedom to be fully themselves. Camp Big Heart represents inclusion in action, not just in words. Camp Big Heart builds a unique community for our staff and campers. Here, differences aren’t obstacles; they’re part of what makes the camp strong and meaningful. We get the privilege of empowering others—staff, volunteers, and campers—to believe in their abilities and to support one another.
