Meet Lucas Brooks
My name is Lucas, and I have had the privilege of being part of the Camp Big Heart family since 2000. My deep passion for serving the special needs community has profoundly shaped both my personal and professional journey. I reside in Nashville, Georgia, and have spent the past 20 years working in educational settings dedicated to supporting students with diverse needs.I served as a special education teacher for nine years, working closely with students experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges. For the past eleven years, I have continued this work in an administrative capacity within the special education community. Currently, I am honored to serve as the GNETS Coordinator for the Berrien County School District. Family is a central part of my life. I am the proud father of two sons, both of whom volunteer at Camp Big Heart and share my commitment to service. They are actively involved in extracurricular activities, including track, cross country, soccer, and marching band. In my free time, I enjoy collecting vintage toys and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.
My journey with Camp Big Heart began as a unit leader and support staff member, and it has grown into the honor of serving as camp director. Each year, I eagerly count down the days until camp begins, because it truly feels like coming home. The campers and staff have become an extension of my family, holding a special place in my heart. Camp Big Heart has become a central part of my life, and its impact has reached far beyond me. Both of my children have volunteered at camp in various roles over the past few years, allowing them to experience the same joy, compassion, and sense of belonging that I have found here. Camp has not only changed my life for the better—it has enriched my children’s lives as well, teaching them the value of kindness, inclusion, and community.
