Meet Stewart Smirthwaite
Outside of camp, I’m married to my high school sweetheart, Sally, and we are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year. Sally and I have 2 children, Jackson and Maribel, who will both be volunteering at camp this summer. Professionally, I have the honor of serving as principal of Oak Park Elementary in Ocean Springs, MS
Camp Big Heart has been part of my life since 2000, and I’ve had the privilege of serving in almost every role at camp from volunteer and unit leader to behavior specialist, support staff, and assistant director. This camp literally changed the trajectory of my life as a teenager and is the reason I became a special education teacher and now a principal. What makes it even more meaningful is getting to share that same experience with my own children and nieces as they come serve alongside me. I love Camp Big Heart!
